Alarms and Controls

What happens in your home when you're sleeping can be deadly.

Safe and sound.

There are two times when you have zero control over the safety of your home:

While there are a number of disastrous scenarios that can occur during these two situations, All American Heating can help with two of the biggest – carbon monoxide poisoning, and frozen, burst, or leaky pipes. We install carbon monoxide detectors, freeze alarms, and automatic water shutoff systems to help keep your home and family safe, 24/7.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas produced by burning gasoline, wood, propane, charcoal or other fuel. Improperly ventilated appliances and engines, particularly in a tightly sealed or enclosed space, may allow carbon monoxide to accumulate to dangerous levels.”

Carbon monoxide can be found in fumes from furnaces, stoves, gas ranges, and lanterns. It can also be produced by burning charcoal and wood. Carbon monoxide can build up in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces and can poison or even kill people and animals breathing the air in these spaces.

The CDC tells us that accidental carbon monoxide poisoning causes more than 400 deaths in the U.S. annually. More than 50,000 people visit the ER each year with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. In Colorado, the numbers are also significant.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can include:

  • Dull headache
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shortness of breath
  • Confusion
  • Blurred vision
  • Loss of consciousness

These are things you may experience when you’re awake, up to and including loss of consciousness. Carbon monoxide is often called “the Silent Killer” because it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, but deadly. If you’re sleeping, you likely won’t even know what’s happening before it’s too late.

That’s where we come in.

All American Heating performs annual maintenance checks on furnaces, boilers, water heaters, and other potentially gas-emitting home HVAC systems to make sure everything is in proper working order. We’re happy to provide repairs and service on most brands and can also recommend and install carbon monoxide detectors throughout your home. These alarms alert you to the presence of carbon monoxide, waking you and your family from sleep before it’s too late. Call us to have your systems inspected and to have CO detectors installed.

If you think you or someone you’re with may have carbon monoxide poisoning,
get into fresh air, and seek emergency medical care.

When the Temperature Drops…

If you’re a native of the high country or spend even a part of your year in the mountains, you’re likely aware of how quickly outdoor temperatures can drop. Even life in Denver has its frozen moments. And if your heating system isn’t working properly or a power outage prevents it from running, the results can be catastrophic.

A frozen home likely means frozen and/or burst pipes, a flooded house, and lots of interior destruction. Cleanup is expensive and time-consuming, and insurance claims are a hassle – especially if you live out of state and are a part-timer in the mountains.

Sudden temperature changes and power outages can create the perfect storm - and spell disaster for your home. Let All American Heating help with a freeze alarm to notify you when the temperature inside drops to dangerous levels.

That’s where we come in.

All American Heating offers several solutions for avoiding these distressing situations.

Smart Thermostats

One of the best ways to protect your permanent or vacation home from frozen or burst pipes is with a smart thermostat. All American Heating can install a smart thermostat that can be managed from any internet device like your phone, tablet, computer, or smartwatch. You can keep an eye on the temperature in your home, change heating or cooling settings for home and away, and set alerts to notify you if the temperature drops suddenly, so you can take action. And we’re always here if you need us for a plumbing emergency.

Automatic Water Shutoff Systems

Water leaks are one of the leading causes of property damage, far more likely to occur than both fire and theft combined. An effective way to avoid the catastrophe of a flooded home from frozen, burst, or leaky pipes is to install an automatic water shutoff system. In addition to protecting you from the massive costs of restoring a water-damaged home, having an automatic water shutoff system may help you qualify for discounts on your home insurance premiums.

Automatic water shutoff systems monitor the water flow in your plumbing system and identify leaks, cold temperatures, and other conditions that can cause catastrophic flooding. As the name suggests, they will automatically shut off the water supply to your home, reducing the flooding from thousands of gallons to a couple dozen. Additionally, these systems will send you text or email notifications about what’s happening and can be accessed via the internet on a computer or smartphone, allowing you to manage your settings, open and close your valve, and more, from anywhere, at any time.

All American Heating installs both Water Hero and FloLogic systems and will help you determine what size and brand are right for your individual situation.

Water Hero protects your primary or vacation home from water damage and helps you monitor your water use to identify leaks and reduce costly water bills. You’ll also reduce waste, which means living greener. Water Hero also utilizes a battery back-up that keeps it functioning when your power goes out.

FloLogic offers comprehensive, real-time leak protection with automatic shutoff to help protect your property. This flow-based system continuously catches and stops even pinhole leaks anywhere in your plumbing system. Additionally, FloLogic is made in the USA.

Telephone Freeze Alarms

Home flooding is common in the Spring, as frozen pipes in cold homes thaw and the water spills through breaks that occurred when the water froze and expanded. There are ways to stop this, and All American Heating has the answer

An Intermediate Phone Alarm can alert you or a pre-selected, local contact when temperatures inside your home reach a predetermined low point – anywhere from -66 degrees F to 302 degrees F, which allows you to address the issue before damage occurs.

This alarm automatically dials up to three phone numbers and delivers your custom voice message. Your message identifies the location and temperature status and gives you or your designated contact(s) a chance to fix the problem or contact our plumbing services. The alarm system will continue dialing in 15-minute or two-hour intervals. It will not reset until you turn it off remotely from any touch-tone phone. You can also call at any time to check the temperature of your property or to change settings.

This alarm plugs into a standard outlet and phone jack and has a battery backup that lets it operate during a power failure. It will even remind you to change the backup battery and can be programmed from any touch-tone phone.

We also offer the Freeze Alarm Deluxe to alert you or a neighbor when the temperature inside falls below 45 degrees F, and before your pipes freeze. The alarm automatically dials the phone number you specify and sounds a warning tone, giving you or your contact a chance to fix the problem or contact our plumbing services. The alarm keeps dialing every three hours or every 15 minutes, as you prefer. It will not reset until either the temperature rises above 48 degrees F or you reset it remotely from any touch-tone or smartphone. This alarm operates even during a power failure and plugs into a standard phone jack. Requires one 9V battery (not included).
